Did You Know…Employers Spend Barely 10 Seconds Scanning Your Resume?

May 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s true. Prospective employers receive hundreds of resumes each day, (emailed and snail-mailed). With their busy schedule, they have to make quick decisions, so they take about 10 seconds to scan resumes in order to weed out the unqualified candidates. If your resume isn’t in the proper format or is not easily read, it is filed…right into the trash can. The most important information for them to see is your job qualifications, longevity history, and education. If they can’t register all this information within those scant 10 seconds*, your resume won’t make the cut.

*For help with making the most of those 10 seconds, please read my blog post, Does Your Resume Need Space? and listen to the very first episode of Help Me Get Hired, Getting Started – Basic Resume Formatting Guildelines on BlogTalkRadio to be rebroadcast today, May 29th (Friday) at 4:00pm EST in the U.S.. Catching Up With My Blog Information And My Thanks.

May 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

In an effort to keep my blog active while I’m dealing with my family’s crisis/tragedy and also to challenge myself to shorten my blog posts, I’ve decided to run several informational snippets over the next week or two. I’m calling this series of snippets, the Did You Know…? series.

I’m trying to not elaborate these key points – the teacher/writer in me REALLY wants to but the editor says “no, you’ve already done so in other blog entries and also in various episodes of Help Me Get Hired on BlogTalkRadio”.

However, these upcoming key points are worth both repeating and elaborating on so I’ll not only post the snippet but will also post links within the entry to pertinent posts or radio episodes. That way I have all my bases covered and I know you’ll get the additional information you need to make your future a brighter one!

Many thanks to all of you for your patience and understanding and stay tuned for some very valuable tidbits starting tomorrow, Friday, May 29th, 2009.  :)
